    Happy Birthday To Me!!!

What a boring birthday this year. Most of my friends are aways at the moment. Well, it is what to expect when my birthday is nearly on the new year holiday.

However, I have some photos for you to enjoy this comeing Christmas. In my town during this time of the year, every one seem to be very happy and really enjoy themself. The event that everyone seem to looking forward to is  "the christmas parade" and this year theme of the parade is "Fairy's Tales". (Feel free to click on the photos to see all the Fairy's Tales Photo Gallery)

I went to the parade about 1 and a half hour earlier just to have a chance to get to know people in the parade. there are all excited and very happy.

Teachers, parents, kids and everyone else .....

I do not know why but this photo above is the photo I like most. I am not familiar with taking photos of people so this might not be a perfect potrait shot but I do really like it.

I found that taking photo like this is so much fun. I made a lot of friend that day, met people, chatting, took photos of them. This is more enjoyable than driving a car looking for a good spot and capture the photos this is more like capture the moment.

A lot of people are waiting on the street, there are all excited.

Well, not just people in the parade are in the costume.

    What's a great day !!!

    Bloomin' Tulip

    Table Cape, Wynyard Tasmania

This trip was like a crazy trip. I got up at 5 in the morning 'cause I wanted to have a lazy trip up north to Wynyard. Well, I thought that I could stop by every now and then so that I could enjoy a journey and get some good photos. Wynyard is only 2 hours away form where I live. About nearly an hour after I took off, the sky was still dark but it was not because that the Sun has not raised yet. It was olny because the cloud was so thick so that one would not be able to get a glimpse of any sun shy. I was so confused and finally decided to turn back home.

Later that afternoon, the sky seem clear so I got to my car again and heading north. This time I did not wish to get to Wynyard at all since it was very late afternoon and I would not get to have a decent light condition for photo taking by the time I got there. I decided to spend a night in a small town relax and enjoy my holiday and I am gald I did that, it was a peaceful night.

I got up about 10 o'clock in the morning and this time the  destination was Table Cape, Wynyard.

On the way to Table Cape, there are a lot of tulip farm alongside the road and it was so beautiful. The weather today was quite annoying. It was raining every 20-30 minutes and then a very clear sky. I had to stop at some spots for like half an hour to wait for the cloud to be gone and the Sun shined thru the bright blue sky.

Some of these photos are taken right after the rain was gone and not so long before the sky turn bad again. Well, I am not a big fan of flower. In fact, I said no twice last week to my friends when they asked if I wanted  to come here with them. But I am glad that I finally came here. This was not a bad experience at all.

What can I say. This was a wonderful trip on a colorful ocean road.!!!

    Wondering around Lonnie

    Miss me?

I am just too busy getting used to my new camera, Olumpus E300. Here are some photos shot right after the battery was charged. Feel free to click on the text below the picture to see the full content in the Photo Gallery.

Like I told you in my previous entry, I recently bought a new camera which means that I have to start it all over again. Of course the principles of taking photos are still the same but the only different is that how the camera is operated. It was not something that is very difficult to be familiar with but not that you would not want to worry especially when you switch to another brand. Even though I found it very easy to operate this Olympus E300, When one of my friend want me to take a photo of her with the G3 Canon digital compact camera I found myself playing around with it instictively. Well, I can not complain about that. After years with Canon, I seem to be a real canon user.

If you click on the text below this creepy church photo, you will see that this camera does the job with low light condition as well. Why would I worried about this? I was under the impression that this E300 have problem with low light and long exposure but it seem fine for me tho.

Many people asked me why I use Olympus and not the Canon any more. My answer would simply be that I could never find a better price on this model anywhere alse. Cameras in Australia are always more expensive than it should be by 30-60%.

Canon EOS 20D is A$2,300 in the local shop while it is A$1,700 if you order it from overseas and it is more than twice the price if you were to buy any of the Canon Lenses in Australia. I want to see it before I purchase it if I want to buy anything like this. But since the Olympus offer the price that as cheap to buy at your local store as you can find on the internet, I did not hesitate to grab one, nearly a month ago.

I posted all 4 galleries at once just because all these photos are the practical warm up activity only but next time I expect something more exciting!!! until then.

    S45

Well, I came back from Melbourne for quite sometime now but have not yet updated my blog. Actually, I decided to buy a new camera for nearly a year due to the limitation of my old one. I then finally bought a new camera. That is why I have been missing.

Anyway, I am not throwing my old Canon S45 away, here is a photo taken by the best digital compact camera I have ever had.

    Great Lake

After a trip to Mt Ben Lomond, my friend and I decided to go somewhere nice and warm with a reflection of light upon the water. It was not a realistic dream to go somewhere that warm in Tasmania at the moment. Well at least there are a lot of water here in Tasmania since this is an island state. Instead of ocean view and beaches we decided to go to a lake called Great Lake, an apparently largest Lake on the Tasmanian map.

The lake is located on top of the high land and indeed very huge. I did not really expect the lake to be on top of the mountain like this nor did any of my friends. Each and everyone in the whole group only wore a not-so-thick jumper and not so long up the mountain, we realised that this was not going to be a nice and warm trip.

We did not got out of the car for longer than 15 minutes each place we stopped by or we were gonna get cold. And this taught us that next time we are going somewhere, make sure that we wear a proper outfit.

    Ben Lomomd

It has been a not so cold winter so far and I had my doubt that there will be enough snow for skiing this year. However after nearly a week of pouring rain, my friends and I decided to drive up Mt Ben Lomond, the only ski resort in Tasmania. Upon reaching the top of the mountain, we only spotted couple of cars going the same direction. There was no doubt that there were going to be just a few people up there since the ski season had yet to begun.

I had always used to the resort, packed of tourists, where I can hardly be able to get a beer, let alone to find a seat. But this was the first time that I could find the best spot next to the fire place and drank a glass of very fine local premium beer.

After warm up myself a bit with a couple of beers, we took off and getting ready to go and take some photos. Yes, you heard me right, photos. This time, I did not really come here for skiing at all. Even though this is not my first time seeing snow, it had never stopped excite me.

    The World is so GREEN!!!

I have finished reading the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince a long time ago but did not have chance to update my blog. I have been so busy these couple weeks, kind of working 7 days a week. So when I had a slightest free time, I jumped in behind the wheel and drove away as far as I could for a single day road trip to the "RUSSELL FALLS"

Russell Falls is located in the Mount Field National Park, about an hour from Hobart. Well, I am not living in Hobart so it took me another two and a half hours to get there.

    Green Green Green

Only about 15 minutes walking from car park, I reached the ground level of the falls. After took couple of photoes, I walked to the upper level. On the higher level the water falls did not seem to be very big yet beautiful. If the temperature was not reaching the 0 degree I would probably jump in and swim. But I could not dare think of taking off my jumper.

I really like it when everything seemed to be greenish. It was very relaxing and calm. It was a very peaceful moment there where I can sit and listen to the sound of the water flow through the tide and splashing through the rock. This is how I like Tasmania, quiet and beautiful.

And of course, there was nothing better to do except to taking some photos here, well, lots of them.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince launch Party

I was so excited about this Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Launch Party on Saturday, 16 July. I could not sleep because it has been more than 2 years of waiting for this sixth installment of the Harry Potter book series. I got up at 7:00 am, exactly 2 hours before the worldwide release time and also exactly 2 hours after I had got a chance to go to bed. However, I managed to get to the party just in time though.

Launceston, a small town down under in Australia, was always extremely quiet on a Saturday morning. But with the world wide event as such a Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince launch date like this, the city centre was filled with rather excited young witches and wizards.

Some book store held a launch party and this is not a usual event since this is a not so populated area. But the bright side was that this morning seemed not to have any muggle, non magic folks, around at all.

It was 9:01 am when everyone were in the queue counting down to the moment they opened the boxes and at last ...., Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince in my hand. I intended to take a lot of photos of young witches and wizards and of course some adult witches and wizards around the city as well. But how could I resist the book. I went straight back home and begin the very first page.

You might not see me for a while for I now have been obsessed by the book.

    Shampoo

I was wondering around the city in the morning when found this fountain. Someone must have filled it with a shampoo or some kind of liquid detergent. I dont really remember what was I meant to do this morning but I just got back to my car, drove back home, picked up my digital camera and then came back here again. This is not a perfect picture but I kind of like it.

    The Sun

It has been a very long time since my last post.  I have posted some pictures of the moon but look like a sun. Here is a picture of the Sun.

    Raining day again !!!

My friend flew from Melbourne to visit me in Tasmania last weekend. He does also like taking photos so we had a photo shooting trip plan at Mount Ben Lomond. And the subject of this photo shooting trip was "Snow". Unfortunately, the weather was so bad and it was too dangerous to drive up the mountain at the time. We had to change our plan to go somewhere safe.

Wineglass Bay is one of the most beautiful oceanic views in Australia. It is located on the East Coast of Tasmania and that was where we really went.

Changing the plan does not necessarily mean that the weather condition will be any different, let alone better and I forgot about that fact. I was stuck again inside the house I rent near WIne Glass Bay. My friends and I had to watch about 5 DVD titles and play monopoly game. This was really crazy and we did not have any chance to get out of the house at all.

We spent 1 night and 1 day doing pretty much nothing. And It was after 5 PM, the next day, when we finished the last DVD we have had and we were thinking of going home.

This time of the year, the day time is so short in Australia. It was only 6 PM when we drove pass Swan Sea and that was the first time the rain seem to be paused for a little while. I grabbed my camera and a tripod and whished that ...

... you will enjoy the moon light.

    The Cave

It was my only holiday during a week but the weather was not as good as what I have been told on the weather forecast website, described as "clear sky". It was a rainy day when I woke up in the morning. With a glimpse of hope and a little faith on the online weather forecast, I jumped off my bed and was getting ready for a road trip!!!

Sitting lazy on the couch looking through the window, the rain was pouring down even harder. There is no hint of a clear sky and there is nowhere I could think of I can go or what I can do on my day off like this.

Picked up a random DVD from the Block blaster and a 2-hour of my time was killed. The Count of Montecristo DVD was a story of a sailor who was imprisoned because a treason he's never done. He escaped some 13 years later with knowledge and fighting skill he learned from his inmate friend. And more importantly, his friend passed a treasure map to him before he died. After escape, he went back to his home town to begin and finish his business, revenge!!!

His business was going well because of the treasure he found in a cave on a Montecristo island. Well, this is something to me too. This is just like my life. I was imprisoned in the house because of the weather and I am on an island too!!! And that just lighten up my heart, a cave. Yes, I should go to the cave!!!

Marakopa Cave and King Solomon Cave are in Tasmania. Marakupa is an aboriginist name that I am sorry to say I forgot what does that mean. It took me about 2 hours of driving thru the bad weather to the 2 caves.

The 2 caves was similar and both beautiful but I was so disappointing when I saw a sign "Tripod is not allowed in the cave". I have to leave my tripod in the cave office and went in.

The caves were like cool rooms. The temperature was 9 degree Celsius in the Maracupa Cave and 6 degree in the King Solomon Cave and that's for the whole year. There are many chambers where there were beautiful rocks that was forming a shape million years ago. And the last and the biggest chamber held a lot of wedding ceremonies during the year.

After a wonderful hour wondering around, there really is a treasure in the cave, a good memory.

    Lake Leake

After many years of living and wondering in Tasmania, I found that everywhere is so beautiful, everywhere is a tourist attraction, everwhere is perfect for photo taking.

I found this lake out of the hihgway near the Campbel town. This is quite far off the main road because this is a water supply for the whole town. I was expecting a nice photo of the sun set here. Unfortunately, I wasn't aware that this lake would be too far from the town. I ended up getting there an hour after the sun set. Yet, I  manageg to take a not-so-bad photo here.

This trip was a short one and so was the entry.

PS That isn't the Sun it is the Moon, a not even half phase Moon. The FStop Number 8 and 15 seconds of shutter speed made the little Moon look different.

    Oakley Filter

The best time for taking a photo is when the light is right. I like to take photos when the light is soft like in the morning or late afternoon. However, sometime a potentially good photo just comes when the light is not right.

Just like my last entry, which made me very happy due to a lot of comments :), It was nearly midnight and not likely to get a nice shot. That is the time when a flash is come to use, a not-enough-light situation. But what if the light is too bright, how am I gonna take a photo?

I was on the way to Hobart, a capital city of Tasmania, again this morning. Just before we reached the city, it was nearly 11:00 am. The light was so bright but I need a decent photo to update my blog :P. With high-end digital cameras, they allow you to have an extra filter attaches to the lens to create some effect on the pictures. In most case, we can use software to produce that similar effects the filters could deliver. But to drop such a huge amount of light like in this situation, perhaps, we need to go back to a conventional ND filter.

Unfortunately, today, I only have a Canon S45 which is not so high-end camera and there is nowhere I could possibly attach a filter to it.

So I just came up with an idea that I might use my sun glasses to drop some light by just holding my sunnies in front of my lens, just for an experiment. And, to my surprise, it turn out to be not so bad.

    June 07

    got ya!!!

On the way back form Hobart to Launceston, there are a lot of resting areas and toilet facilities. I stopped my car on one of them to stretch my leg and walk around.

The really dark night and clear sky allowed me to enjoy a night sky and the southern hemisphere constellations even it was so cold out there.

While admiring the stars I heard a sound right behind me. As soon as that sound emerged my ears I turned back, looked through the dark and hardly saw anything. Where was that sound come from? More importantly, what made that sound?

I, then, looked around and finally realized that that sound was coming from the rubbish bin not so far from where I stood. Wondering what was it inside the bin, I went back to my car, pickup my friend's camera, sat there in front of the bin and pointed the camera, ready to shoot, to where the sound came from.

After about 15 minutes of sitting there in the middle of nowhere during the quiet night with a rather thick jumper, I got ya!!!

PS. I am not so sure about this but I think it is a possum, an Australian creature.

    June 06

    Southern Cross

I am so tired tonight. I will write some more tomorrow and that a promise.

Okay let start, Southern Cross or Crux is a southren sky constellation. These stars also appear on the Australian flag. Last night I drove back from the other town and have a shot nap on the side of the highway. After refreshing myself a bit, I got out of the car and see a very clear sky. I then thought I might have a nice shot of this Southern Cross constellation and my (friend's) camera never disappoint me.
